L.A. Lungs

L.A. Lungs was formed in the summer on 2005 in a Tacoma studio apartment by Afterthought Lung (nee Nathan Markiewicz) and Leeward Lungs (nee Lori Peterson). They quickly recorded and released a very limited run (40 copies) CDR called “I’ve Called You ‘Sexy Woman’ on a Tuesday Night Before” on the now defunct Tacoma label Handpanther.

What began as a “studio” project became a “functioning” live act by the summer of 2006, with L.A. Lungs making their live debut at the also now defunct No Tomorrow concert series in Seattle. An opportunity to perform on Portland State University’s KPSU radio station resulted in the group self-releasing a CDR (moving up in the world to 100 copies) of the show under the title “Metaphors for Comfort”. Also around this time L.A. Lungs were contacted by the VERY prolific Vancouver, BC DIY label Isolated Now Waves, and early in 2007 INW released a split cassette between L.A. Lungs and Vancouver noiseman N213 (also very limited).

L.A. Lungs continue to perform around the Pacific Northwest and have been fortunate enough to share bills with wonderful artists such as Acre, Bird Costumes, Wesley Borden, Cabinet of Natural Curiosities, Crank Sturgeon, The Dead Air Fresheners, Steve Fisk, Forest Friends, Gowns, Bill Horist, Josh Hydeman, Derek Johnson, Mattress, myrmyr, POWRFL POWER, Racooo-oo-oon, Scard, Shearing Pinx, Talbot Tagora, Your Drugs My Money, and many more.
