Divorce Party formed in early 2010 in Ypsilanti, Michigan. They are a four piece consisting of members Miguel Baptista Benedict (vocal manipulation), Ryan St. Claire (guitar), Joe Biggerstaff (bass) and David Slaga (drums). These four often defy categorization and make reviewers head’s spin with trying to describe the whirling but tightly orchestrated freak noise. With blog “Viva Fate” describing their EP “Astrocongertion Oporium” as:
…where there was once a trace of Melt Banana there will suddenly by a Jesus Lizard-esq riff.
Or from “Buddha Khan:”
Taking dancey rock forms and blending it with hard electronics and synth sounds, the songs chirp and bend jaggedly, more spasm than song at times.
“… more spasm than song.” An apt tagline for a group whose lifespan seems to be more like a brief deluge, rather than a lengthy brooding storm. We expect more from these gentlemen from Michigan as surely their talents will be poured into yet more jerks and spits.
