Agnes Szelag is a composer, performer (cello and vocals), and multi-media installation artist. Transformation is often a theme in her work as she creates spaces that connect the tangible with the intangible, interactive schemes that ride the line between composition and improvisation, and electronic textures that are both delicate and dark.
Her solo EP No Summer or Winter on Aphonia was hailed as “a distinctive voice in the electro-acoustic field” by Textura, and “gorgeous” by XLR8R. Her most recent release as myrmyr with Marielle Jakobsons The Amber Sea on Digitalis (2009) as was named by Boomkat as “one of the most unique and absorbing albums we’ve heard this year,” and made their top 100 for 2009. Her duo with The Norman Conquest, Dokuro, is described by THE WIRE as “discreetly sculptured.” Agnes Szelag has also recently formed Evon and released a debut record The Bees Are Coming.
Her work has been featured in the San Francisco Electronic Music Festival, ICMC, Project Soundwave, The Streaming Festival, Cologne Online Film Festival, Electronic Music Midwest Festival, the Illuminated Corridor Festival, 60 x 60, Voices on the Edge, and at the Stone in NY.

Staino, Alee Karim, Shayna Dunkelman, Caroline Penwarden, Double Vision, Capacitor, Oakland Active Orchestra, and many others.
Agnes is a Course Director at Ex’pression College for Digital Arts, received her MFA in Electronic Music and Recording Media from Mills College, and her B.S. in Radio/TV/Film from Northwestern University. Agnes resides and is active in the music and art scene in the Bay Area, CA.
